Tooth colored fillings

Even though we are taking better care of our teeth than ever before, only the lucky few of us will avoid the need for a filling at some point in our lives. A filling may be required for various reasons including decay, damage or wear to the surface of the tooth. For aesthetic reasons, many people now opt for composite resin (tooth colored) fillings over metal colored amalgam.

Composite filings (made from a mixture of plastic and glass called silicone dioxide) have been used for over forty years. Originally the materials used were considered inferior to metals, however modern composite fillings now prove just as hard-wearing and durable as amalgam

Kids

we recommend that you schedule your infant's first dental check-up by age one. Most children have had their first teeth erupt by 12 months, but you can still bring your child in for an appointment even if this hasn't happened. Dr. Damerji uses this opportunity to check the condition of the gums as well as to educate parents on the importance of establishing a good oral health care routine. At this age, using a damp cloth on your baby's gums after feeding him or her is sufficient. Dr. Damerji typically recommends introducing tooth brushing between the first and second birthday. Place only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on the brush to clean the teeth that your toddler has. As your child gets older, demonstrate how you brush your own teeth and encourage him or her to do the same..

Bridges

Bridges are usually made of a precious metal. If the bridge will show, porcelain is then bonded to the base. Sometimes, there are other non-precious metals used in the base for strength.

You need to clean your bridge every day, to prevent problems such as bad breath and gum disease. You also have to clean under the false tooth every day. Your dentist or hygienist will show you how to use a bridge needle or special floss, as a normal toothbrush cannot reach.

Root Canal

A root canal treatment is required if the dental pulp (or central layer) of your tooth has become infected or inflamed and cannot be saved. This normally arises as a result of advanced decay, a deep filling or a severe crack or fracture to the tooth due to a trauma. Occasionally it can be a result of gum disease.

The main symptom of a pulp infection is tooth pain and increased sensitivity to hot or cold. The tooth may become discolored and the gum can swell and feel tender. You may also find that you have a metallic taste in your mouth. Sometimes, there are no symptoms at all.

Oral Exams & Dental X-Rays

Regular oral exams and dental X-Rays are the best way to keep your smile in great shape and avoid dental emergencies and other issues that can become more costly.

Your dentist or dental hygienist will review your digital dental X-rays and perform an exam to check the health of your teeth and gums, as well as examining any dental restorations such as fillings or crowns to make sure they are in good shape..

Dentures

Dentures are a cost-effective method of helping you function normally despite the loss of multiple teeth. We will consult with you and help you decide on the best dentures for your mouth. One of our dental prosthetics will do a mold of your mouth and produce a denture to perfectly fit. Once you have them in you won't ever know they are there.

Oral Surgery

Simple Extractions. Surgical Extractions. Sleep Dentistry. When Do You Need Oral Surgery? Grossly decayed/ severely fractured teeth. Very mobile teeth.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Replacing silver fillings with white fillings.

Veneers.

Tooth whitening.

Dental Emergency

Relates to any dental condition that requires urgent attention. The most common example is acute pain resulting from an infected tooth. Patients with broken teeth, severe gum infections and broken dentures also need urgent assistance.

Examining & treating gum disease

Periodontal disease is the inflammation and infection of the gum. This is caused by an accumulation of plaque, which is a thick and sticky film of bacteria that builds up around teeth and gums. If not treated properly and timorously, this can lead to a range of general health issues. Our dentists are some of the best in the business, ensuring that you receive the best care and help to prevent any future dental health issues.

What Our Patients Say

FAQ

Why should I floss, isn't brushing enough?

Flossing reduces the number of bacteria in your mouth. There are millions of these microscopic creatures feeding on food particles left on your teeth. These bacteria live in plaque which can be removed by flossing. Brushing your teeth gets rid of some of the bacteria in your mouth. Flossing gets rid of the bacteria the toothbrush can't get to. That's the bacteria hiding in the tiny spaces between your teeth. If you do not floss, you allow plaque to remain between your teeth. Eventually it hardens into tartar. Plaque can be removed by brushing. Only the dentist can remove tartar..

How can I get my kids to brush their teeth?

Make it fun! If you are enthusiastic about brushing your teeth, your children will also be enthusiastic. Children want to do the things their parents do. If your children see you brushing your teeth and displaying good dental habits, they will follow. Ask the dentist for other creative ways to get children to brush their teeth. Getting your children to brush starts with taking them to the dentist at an early age.

Can I bring X-rays from another dental or specialty practice?

Yes. It is possible to transfer records from one dental practice to another. You may be asked to provide permission to transfer your records, or you can bring them with you. It is important to note that X-rays are a critical component of proper diagnostics, and even with electronic transfer of digital X-rays, there may be some loss of image quality. Your dentist will review the records and let you know if additional X-rays may be needed for diagnostic purposes.

What causes morning breath?

When you are asleep, production in your mouth decreases. Since your saliva is the mouth's natural mouthwash, most people experience morning breath. Bacteria found on teeth in the crevices and on the taste buds of the tongue, break down the food particles, which produce sulfur compounds. It is actually these sulfur compounds which give our breath a bad odor. During desk, your saliva helps to wash away bacteria and food particles. Your saliva also helps to dissolve the foul smelling sulfur compounds.

How can I prevent cavities?

Do not brush too hard. It takes very little pressure to remove bacteria and plaque. Floss at least once a day. Flossing is the only way to get bacteria from between your teeth. Watch the sugar you eat. There is sugar in candy, fruits, crackers and chips. These are the foods that the bacteria in your mouth like best. Be mindful of foods like raisins and peanut butter that stick to your teeth. They can provide a constant supply for the bacteria eating into your teeth. Try to minimize the times during the day when sweet items are eaten and brush your teeth afterwards.

What tooth paste should I use?

The most important ingredient to look for when choosing toothpaste is fluoride. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral. Its use has been instrumental in the dramatic drop in tooth decay and cavity occurrence that has taken place over the past 50 years. Bacteria in your mouth feed on sugars and starches that remain on your teeth after eating. Fluoride helps protect your teeth from the acid that is released when this happens. It does this in two ways. First, fluoride makes your tooth enamel stronger and less likely to suffer acid damage. Second, it can reverse the early stages of acid damage by solidifying areas that have started to decay.
